Company Data Legislation
Company Data Legislation
New legislation on the storage of data by UK Companies is expected to bring the UK in line with other EU Companies - What could this mean to you ?
The government wants to make it mandatory for phone and internet companies to store all information on personal web use for 12 months.
The plan - contained in a Home Office consultation paper - is aimed at making it easier to investigate serious crime.
What are the implications for you ?
As a Business the potential impact of this legislation couldĀ mean that you would be responsible for storing, maintaining and securing the contents of your inhouse mail server, together with the MSN type conversations for review by the authorities. The storage of this data will be outside the specification of disk storage for the average business and consequently a cost effective, scaleableĀ storage solution will be required.
As a Home User, there would be little physical impact, however you may wish to review the policy of your Internet Service Provider (ISP) regarding the storage and retention of your Email and Messenger traffic, you can then make a decision on whether you wish to stay or move to an alternative.
At i7 Technologies, we have the expertise and equipment available to increase data storage, whether for normal space requirements or to prepare you for any current or future legislation.
